Famous Manhattans

A kinder & gentler cocktail to recapture the spirit
of a by-gone era

Traditional version (Dennise's favorite)

1.75 liters 3 cups 24 dashes 1/2 cup

bourbon sweet vermouth Angostura bitters maraschino cherry juice

New York version (Peter's favorite)

1.75 liters 2 cups 24 dashes 1/3 cup

Canadian or rye whiskey sweet vermouth Angostura bitters maraschino cherry juice

Serve the Famous Manhattan garnished with a maraschino cherry on the rocks or ice cold straight up.

 

Other tips:
-Trader Joe's sells an excellent Italian sweet vermouth.
-Very large jars of marachino cherries are available at Costco.
-Manhattans are best served Wednesday through Sunday evenings. On Mondays we need a big Martini.
-You're on your own on Tuesdays.
