Happy Father's Day.

Happy Father's Day to you. I cannot wish it to my father Lawerence Menkin as he died last year. I miss him terribly. His life was simpler, although he grew up during and survived the Great Depression. He did not have to share being a "father" to two or more families, sharing the role, and his life was simpler as he only had four boys to help raise. He was a lot smarter than I am. I wish he were around so I could listen to his advice. He seemed to understand and have much patience for all things we talked about.

As you get older, obtain a second family, or your children marry and you have a son-in-law or two, or more, and grandchildren,the role takes on new meaning and new responsibilities.

So from one father to another, take a deep breath today, and get ready for the next day. If you get a Father's Day card, you are lucky indeed to be recognized for one of the toughest, and rewarding, jobs you will have in your life. And if your father is alive, visit him or telephone him today, because you will certainly miss him when he has passed from this life.
